SUMMARY:Kinship of Difference :: Irish Linen Centre\, Lisburn
DESCRIPTION:The Lisburn Linen Museum will be the venue for Kinship of Difference\, a special evening\ncelebrating the history and future relevance of the linen industry\, produced by\nARTSAWONDER in association with THE RESURGAM TRUST and hosted by Tommy Sands.\nThis unique event\, recorded for NTV’s Northern Visions\, will bring together a gathering of\npeople from all aspects of linen-making—from flax pullers to weavers\, artists to\nacademics—who will share conversations and songs about how this ancient industry has\nshaped communities in the past and how it may still play a vital role in the future.\nAttendees will learn why linen has been considered precious since biblical times and hear\nhow it has both set people apart and brought them together again. One special guest will\nshare the family’s extraordinary journey—expelled from France for being Protestant and\nlater from Dromore for being Roman Catholic—reflecting on where this history of faith\,\nwork\, and nostalgia has led them today. \nThe event will delve into the importance of linen in Ireland’s history\, especially in Lisburn\nand Ravensdale\, as well as the present-day value of flax\, known as ‘the blue gold’ in France.\nDiscussions will cover the engagement of different communities with the linen trade\, the\nrealities of hard work and low pay\, and how linen-related words have made their way into\nour everyday language. The environmental relevance of linen in today’s world will also be\nexplored. \nAmong Tommy’s guests\, associated with the Linen Making World will be:\nBrona McVittie\, (Harpist and composer)\nCiaran Mussen\, (Mill heritage and singer)\nNorma Coulter from Men’s and Hen’s Shed\, (her family were all in the Mill\, she was\nencouraged not to work in it!!)\nNorman Dalzell from HAG (Heritage Advisory Group) linked to Hilden Mill\nDon Johnstone\, (Linen Historian)\,\nStaff Members from The Irish Linen Centre Lisburn Museum.

SUMMARY:Annual Music and Healing Seminar

Through reflections on the purpose of the lament\, the ancient harpers’ triad of goltraí\, geantraí\, and suantraí: the storied music of the Scottish pibroch\, Saxon traditions and American “Delta Blues\,” we will examine music as both witness and remedy to suffering by offering consolation\, connection\, and celebration in its aftermath. \nConfirmed speakers include: \nBróna McVittie (musician\, biologist\, author)\, Pipe Major David Hanna MBE\, Dr Bruce Victor (psychiatrist\, musician) and singer/peace-activist Tommy Sands \nAdmission is £5 cash on the door.

SUMMARY:Music of Healing : Evening Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Music of Healing & Creative Arts Award \nTaking its inspiration and title from a song of that name\, written by Tommy Sands\, and the late Pete Seeger\, this event has been at the heart of Fiddlers Green for more than 30 years and is always one of the highlights of the Festival. \nTommy\, in the company of singers and musicians\, welcomes guests\, often with very diverse political or religious views to pursue a higher quality of disagreement\, in the furthering of better understanding and reconciliation. \nThe Music of Healing\, which begins at 8pm has a history of not revealing who all the guests will be. This evolved out of necessity during the “Trouble Times”\, and although thankfully those dark days are behind\, the tradition continues to this day. What we can reveal\, however\, is\, it will be a memorable evening of music and song reflecting and respecting the hurt and fears of “The other side”. Among the afternoon and evening line-up will be  Singing Pastor\, Clemens Bittlinger from Germany; Harpist\, Bróna McVittie; Pipe Major David Hanna MBE\, Dr Bruce Victor\,  psychiatrist/guitarist and Na Leanaí. \nIt will also feature two people who have emerged from different sides of one of the most fateful and life-changing bombings of the Troubles to meet in Rostrevor and talk with each other and to all of us. \nThe Creative Arts Award was established at the turning of the century and acknowledges noted achievements in the field of arts\, literacy and culture\, all of which are an integral part of the Fiddler’s Green Festival. The coveted trophy was crafted by leading Irish sculptor Carolyn Mulholland and was first awarded to the late Nobel laureate Seamus Heaney in the year 2000. \nThe Creative Arts Award winner as often is the case\, usually remains a secret until the last moment and we assure you that the anticipation will be worth every breath of waiting.
