We aim to encourage understanding and acceptance of different faiths and cultures among young people in Northern Ireland.
Diversity Summer Camp 2023
Our most recent event was a week-long summer camp organised by Sorcha Turnbull, which took place in July 2023, inviting young people to learn about different cultures. Participants were from Syria, Poland, Turkey, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Brazil, USA and nearby. Activities included games, art, music, dancing and cooking. Thanks to YWAM in Rostrevor for hosting the event; to Cloughmor Extreme Adventures for the water sports and to Newry and Mourne District Council for supporting the event.
Working closely with children in two different schools per town, Artsawonder completed an introductory assessment meeting followed by 3 further workshops aimed at discovering, understanding and valuing different cultures and faiths. Using arts and music Artsawonder fosters a celebration of cultural diversity to promote an acceptance of others, an affirmation of equal opportunity and an increased sense of citizenship.
This comes from the Rostrevor Declaration – a higher quality of disagreement – adapting the principles for a younger audience.
